Passivation
Passivation’s main purpose is to remove free iron from the surface of stainless steel parts. This helps prevent the parts from having rust develop on the surface. depending on the stainless steel material type, it may make the parts brighter or shinier. Parts that have stains or heat treat scale, must be cleaned prior to passivating or parts will be dark in color. This is usually by electro-polishing or bead blasting.
